"Building a caring community...
assisting people in need."

The Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been a resource for 35 years for economically disadvantaged people in Vermont in search of essential basic needs and assistance to gain independence to help themselves.  JUMP has been supported by local faith communities as well as some grant funding, local businesses, many individual donors, volunteers and committed leadership. As we enter summer 2023 there is a significant increase in the number of people in our region in need.  JUMP’s services are provided to those living in poverty with compassion and without discrimination or judgement - JUMP is open to all ages, the unemployed and underemployed, people with housing and people without housing, victims of domestic abuse, the formerly incarcerated, those living with physical/mental health disabilities, those living in recovery or presently suffering with substance abuse and those living paycheck to paycheck.  JUMP’s services not only help to meet immediate needs but also contribute to preventing homelessness and assisting in promoting independent living.

  • For thirty-five years, JUMP has been listening and responding to the real needs of people with thoughtful, practical assistance, informed referrals, and warm hospitality. Thousands of adults and children have been assisted in meaningful ways and those needs are growing.  With the poverty rate exceeding 20% in some Chittenden County towns and many unhoused people losing their temporary housing, many need the assistance JUMP provides. In the first 10 weeks of this year alone, JUMP assisted 522 households, representing 1121 individuals, including many who were without housing, and distributed nearly $32,000 in vouchers needed for food, utility assistance, thrift shops and laundry.
  • During the summer of 2023 we are taking major steps, transitioning from providing services largely online in 2022 (75%), to mainly in person direct services. Last week alone we assisted 31 households in person at the JUMP Drop In Center.
